In my own reflections lately, I've been struck with God's call through Sacred Scripture to be still. To wait. To let him fight for me. To stay put until he tells me to move.
I've been known to say that you shouldn't be frozen in your discernment because a ship in motion is easier to steer. Well, it is. I don't believe this revelation from God is contrary to that. Perhaps in this season of Advent, the movement is more subtle. Perhaps it's like a child snuggling in your lap just wiggling now and then to get closer and more comfortable. The goal of the motion is closeness to God and his plan rather than all the tasks I need to do, or the growth or knowledge I need to gain. Right now, I am turning each day to face him and, even just for 5 minutes in the morning, quiet my heart and mind and just receive what He has to tell me.
As we enter a new year, many are anxious to have a goal, resolution, or word for the year. In the rush to have the perfect goal, often she rushes past the stillness that leaves room for God to share His will for the year. My plan this year is to not waste time or drag my feet, but pause, reflect, and discern while I listen for the whisper from God. His plan for me is perfect and I do not want the calendar to rush me into planning according to MY will rather than His. God is outside of time and not bound by our understanding of time or progress.
Each day, I am going to invite the Holy Spirit into my time, read a line of Sacred Scripture, listen in silence for God to speak, and then journal any lights or revelations that come to me. Simple, short, and a morning offering of orienting myself to God's voice with anticipation of His word to me.
I would love to offer you the chance to do the same. This journal is a simple devotional journal that you can use to read, reflect, and collect your thoughts each day, or most days. Then when you hear God whisper, you can add that to your reflections. I find that God's will and my word for the year are like cream after I freshly milk my cow. It's there, but not abvious right at first. Then the cream begins to rise to the top, but if you skim it too soon, you'll miss some. Don't be afraid to give some time to this process. Doing God's will will bring you more peace and accomplishment than anything you can set yourself.
I can't wait to hear what God reveals to you. Please share with me as you read.
